Unfortunately, much of the monies spent have been earmarked for projects that do not benefit people or the environment, but have enriched corporations and corrupt self-serving interests- especially in the black hole of military spending. What we need is transparency, accountability, to eliminate corruption and a black budget which allows for the looting of the national wealth.
2) Defense Spending
Slightly Increase    a) Armed forces personnel training
Eliminate                b) Intelligence operations
Greatly Decrease   c) Military hardware
Greatly Decrease   d) Modernization of weaponry and equipment

Greatly Decrease   h) Research and development of new weapons
Greatly Decrease   i) Troop and equipment readiness
j) Other or expanded categories
We spend far more on defense/actually war making- agressive illegal violent activities than any other country on the planet. We certainly wouldn't have "enemies" if we were a good neighbor and weren't threatening every nation, bullying them, stealing their resources, if we actually practiced what we preached, became self-sufficient, respected other nations and their national boundaries. The keystone of US foreign policy for over fifty years has been the nuclear threat, to frighten other nations into bending towards are will by exerting military, economic, as well as the mass media to force other nations into complying with US demands.
3) Taxes
Indicate what federal tax levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one number per category, you can use a number more than once.
Family Income Taxes
Eliminate   a) Less than $12,000

Maintain Status   c) $40,001-$100,000
Slightly Increase  d) $100,001-$180,000
Greatly Increase  e) $180,001-$350,000
Greatly Increase   f) $350,001 and above
g) Other or expanded categories
There should be a progressive income tax. The most wealthy have a greater obligation to contribute to the common good. There has never been a greater disparity in income in all of history. It is scandalous. What gives 1% of the population to dictate whether the rest of the population will starve to death or be deprived of their basic needs, including food, water, electricity, shelter, healthcare? There should be a minimum guaanteed income and a maximum income, so that a small percentage of people cannot abuse their power, at tremendous human and environmental cost.
Other Taxes
Slightly Increase   a) Alcohol taxes
Slightly Increase   b) Capital gains taxes
Slightly Increase   c) Cigarette taxes
Greatly Increase   d) Corporate taxes
Slightly Increase   e) Gasoline taxes
Slightly Increase   f) Inheritance taxes
g) Other or expanded categories
There should be a tax structure that takes into account the environmental costs of products from cradle to grave, so that companies do not externalize those costs upon society and put better thought into their designs to eliminate unnecessary waste and packaging. Polluters need to pay for the mess that they make, and be held accountable either through taxes or through the court system.
Deductions/Credits
Slightly Increase   a) Charitable contribution deduction
Slightly Increase   b) Child tax credit
Slightly Increase   c) Earned income tax credit
Slightly Increase   d) Medical expense deduction
Maintain Status   e) Mortgage deduction
Maintain Status   f) Student loan credit
g) Other or expanded categories
No     4) Do you support the permanent repeal of the federal estate tax?
Yes   5) Do you support requiring the federal budget to be balanced each year?
6) Other or expanded principles
Our economic system is in a crisis state right now. The entire monetary system is deeply flawed and unsustainable, only kept functional through fraud, decption, manipulation, and necessity. The Federal Reerve System should be abolished. We need monetary reform- an open, honest system which serves people and not a handful of financiers and bankers who use it to gain control over the majority and dictate global policies. There is no reason for the US to be beholden to foreign banking interests. The US government could create a national currency to meet the needs of the American people.

Campaign Finance and Government Reform Issues
(Back to top)
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding campaign finance and government reform.
a) Support increasing the amount individuals are permitted to contribute to federal campaigns.
b) Prohibit Political Action Committee (PAC) contributions to candidates for federal office.
c) Allow unregulated soft money campaign contributions to political parties or committees.
d) Remove all contribution limits on federal campaigns and parties.
e) Support prohibiting ads containing candidates' name that are paid for by third parties from airing 60 days before a primary and 30 days before a general federal election.
X   f) Support instant run-off voting (IRV).
X   g) Support designating Election Day as a national holiday.
h) Support giving the President the power of the line item veto for items concerning appropriations.
X   i) Support limiting the President’s use of signing statements in order to prevent an alternative interpretation of the bill.
X   j) Support a federal shield law to protect reporter-source privilege.
k) Other or expanded principles
There should be campaign financing reform, so that how much money is spent does not determine election outcomes. The public owns the airwaves. Candidates deserve to be able to get their message out to voters without the current barriers. some states, such as maine have got publicly funded elections. Candidates beholden to major corporations cost the electorate far more dearly in the long run when they vote millions of dollars in contracts to their corporate sponsors. If the public "owned" the candidates then the officials would be more likely to serve "the public."

Crime Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding crime.
a) Support the use of the death penalty for federal crimes.
X   b) Eliminate the use of the death penalty for federal crimes.
X   c) Support programs to provide prison inmates with vocational and job-related skills and job-placement assistance when released.
X   d) Support programs to provide prison inmates with drug and alcohol addiction treatment.
X   e) Reduce prison sentences for those who commit non-violent crimes.
f) Support mandatory jail sentences for selling illegal drugs.
g) Support strict penalties for internet crime (e.g. hacking, identity theft, worms/viruses).
h) Require that crimes based on sexual orientation be prosecuted as federal hate crimes.
i) Other or expanded principles
Right now the death penalty is being abuse and targeting the poor and people of color, therefore I believe it should be eliminated. There are some outstanding programs that transform 'convicts' into productive citizens such as the Delancey Street program in San Francisco. We incarcerate more people than any other nation. We have created a prison/industrial complex. It needs to be dismantled- currently it serves to curb dissent, while the largest crimes are being committed with impunity by the occupants of the highest offices of the land and CEOs of the largest corporations.

Education Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding education.
X   a) Support the federal government funding universal pre-K programs.
b) Allow parents to use vouchers to send their children to any public school.

d) Allow teachers and professionals to receive federal funding to establish charter or magnet schools.
X   e) Increase funding for the Pell Grant program.
X   f) Decrease interest rates of Stafford Loans.
X   g) Support federal tax incentives to help families save for college.
X   h) Ban university financial aid officers from owning stock in or accepting gifts from student loan lenders.
X   i) Require universities to disclose financial relationships with lenders.
j) Support federal education standards and testing requirements for K-12 students (No Child Left Behind).
X   k) Eliminate all federal education standards and testing requirements for K-12 students (No Child Left Behind).
l) Other or expanded principles
Reduce the costs of higher education, it has become prohibitively expensive. it is cheaper to educate than incarcerate young people. We should invest in the social capital of our country and particularly invest in research and education into solving the problems that the entire world and this country are currently facing. People seek meaningful, puposeful lives, education helps them to identify their talents, abilities and the needs of their society, country, the world.

Employment Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding employment.
X   a) Increase funding for national job-training programs that retrain displaced workers or teach skills needed in today’s job market.
b) Reduce government regulation of the private sector.
X   c) Encourage employers to offer child care services, flex-time scheduling, comp-time, and unpaid leave for family emergencies.
X   d) Increase the federal minimum wage.
X   e) Support the right of workers to unionize.
f) Eliminate all federal programs designed to reduce unemployment.
X   g) Include sexual orientation in federal anti-discrimination laws.
h) Include gender identity in federal anti-discrimination laws.
i) Other or expanded principles
Support worker rights, especially the right to form unions and collective bargaining.

Environment and Energy Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding the environment and energy.
X   a) Strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the Clean Water Act.
X   b) Strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the Clean Air Act.
c) Support increased development of traditional energy resources (e.g. coal, natural gas, oil).
X   d) Strengthen emission controls on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
X   e) Strengthen fuel efficiency standards on all gasoline and diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
f) Support domestic oil exploration in areas that are currently restricted.
g) Encourage further development and use of alternative fuels.
h) Support the use of ethanol as an alternative fuel.
i) Support research and development of nuclear reactors as an alternative energy source.
j) Allow energy producers to trade pollution credits under "cap and trade" laws.
X   k) Support international mandatory emission targets to limit global warming.
l) Support international voluntary emission targets to limit global warming.
m) Other or expanded principles
The US government and the private sector have been sitting on technologies that could greatly reduce our need for fossil fuels. We need to support all renewable, benign energy technologies which could reduce our use of fossil fuels and nuclear power plants.

Gun Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding guns.
X   a) Allow individuals to carry concealed guns.
b) Ban the sale, ownership or possession of handguns except by law enforcement and other government officials.
On (c) and (d), indicate what levels (#1-6) you support for the following categories.
c) Enforcement of existing restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
d) Restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
e) Other or expanded principles
Frankly, I hate guns. I would never own one. However, I am far too aware of the violent repression that has taken place in this country and other countries against innocent civilians and I understand why people would want guns to protect themselves and their families. I am a vegetarian; I would never hunt and kill animals. I understand, however, that their are cultures which rely on hunting for their sustenance. I also realize that guns pose a threat to their owners, as well as families; gun owners accept that risk.

Health Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding health.
X   a) Implement a universal healthcare program to guarantee coverage to all Americans, regardless of income.
X   b) Expand eligibility for tax-free medical savings accounts.

d) Support expanding prescription drug coverage under Medicare.
e) Offer tax credits to individuals and small businesses to offset the cost of insurance coverage.
X   f) Support expanding child healthcare programs.

h) Other or expanded principles

Immigration Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding immigration.
a) Decrease the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country.
b) Establish English as the official national language.
c) Support a temporary worker program.
X   d) Support harsher financial punishments for those who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.
X   e) Support amnesty for illegal immigrants already working in the United States.
f) Illegal immigrants should have to return to their countries of origin before being considered for citizenship.
X   g) Illegal immigrants should be given a pathway to citizenship.
h) Support merit-based visas over family-based visas.
i) Other or expanded principles
The US has always been very dependent upon a cheap/slave labor force. Immigrants whether 'legal or illegal" have historically been abused by their employers who have used their position to deny basic wages, decent working conditions, reasonable hours, health and safety standards, compensation for injuries on the job, a litany of abuses. At the same time, US foreign policy has exacerbated living conditions in Mexico, Central and Latin America causing a wave of refugees, political and economic to flee their countries in search of survival. Only reshaping foreign policy will cure this "alleged" dilemma.

International Aid, International Policy, and International Trade Issues
(Back to top)
International Aid
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international aid.
X   a) Support the United States granting aid to countries when extraordinary circumstances cause disaster and threaten civilian lives.
b) Support the United States granting aid to countries when it is in the security interests of the United States.
X   c) Eliminate United States aid for any nation with documented human rights abuses.
d) Aid granted by the United States should be scaled back and eventually eliminated.
e) Other or expanded principles
The tragedy is that the US has supported the overthrow of democratically elected governments in numerous countries and supported brutal military dictators for the benefit of giant corporate interests. The US has systemically demonized countries that will not kowtow to its corporate or foreign policy objectives. How can we expect the US to give aid to the right people when it is most needed when its history is so poor, even in the US, where life saving aid was denied and blocked from the people of New Orleans? We need to see that aid actually helps people, not dictators.

International Policy
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international policy.
No     a) Should the United States continue to provide leadership in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process?
Yes   b) Should the United States support the creation of a Palestinian state?
No    c) Should the United States impose greater international sanctions on Iran if it continues to defy United Nations mandates?
Unsure d) Should the United States support the Lebanese government against insurgent forces?
No    e) Should the United States maintain its troop levels in Iraq?
Yes   f) Should the United States withdraw its troops from Iraq?
g) Discuss your proposals for Iraq.
The US should cut off military aid to Israel and not allow them to dominate the Middle East, particularly Palestine. The US had no right to invade and occupy Iraq and has only done harm to that nation. The US should remove itself from Iraq, as soon as possible, and let the Iraqi people determine their own future. if anything, the US actually owes reparations to the country of Iraq for the destruction and suffering that it has inflicted upon that nation.

No   h) Should the United States apply greater economic and diplomatic sanctions against North Korea if it fails to abide by its agreement to suspend its nuclear program?
Neutral  i) Should the United States increase financial support for Afghanistan?
No     j) Should the United States increase military support for Afghanistan?
No   k) Should the United States trade nuclear fuel to India for civilian purposes?
Yes  l) Should the United States decrease financial support for Pakistan?
No  m) Should the United States decrease military support for Pakistan?
No   n) Should the United States be involved in bringing an end to the violence in Darfur, Sudan?
Yes o) Should the United States be involved in bringing an end to the violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo?
No   p) Should the United States provide economic and military support to the Transitional Government of Somalia?
No   q) Should the United States use sanctions to encourage the government of Zimbabwe to end its human rights abuses?
No   r) Should the United States support the creation of an independent nation of Kosovo?
s) Other or expanded principles
The US has been supporting military dictatorships of the worst kinds in many of these countries and has allowed wars to be waged because the arms business is big business, and because corporations have been looting the rich resources in many African nations. The US seems to only support nations which allow US corporations to join in the looting of resources without any regards whatsoever to the general welfare of the people in those countries. the US should get out of the war business and produce things which are of tangible benefit to humanity and the planet.
International Trade
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding international trade.
No   a) Do you support the United States imposing economic sanctions on China?
No   b) Do you support the United States imposing trade sanctions on Venezuela?
No   c) Do you support the United States involvement in free trade agreements?
No   d) Do you support the United States involvement in intergovernmental organizations dedicated to trade?
e) Other or expanded principles
The Trade Agreements have masked a grab for supranational power for corporations over the national sovereignty of nations and their right to protect their people, the environment. The WTO, IMF, World Bank are loathed globally for the policies that they have imposed on countries to the great detriment of people and the environment, for the benefit of giant corporations. The current dealings to unify Mexico, the United States and Canada for the benefit of corporations should be exposed and opposed by citizens of all three countries.

National Security Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding national security.
No   a) Do you support using military tribunals to try suspected terrorists when ordinary civilian courts are deemed inappropriate or impractical?
No   b) Should law enforcement agencies have greater discretion to monitor domestic communications, to prevent future terrorist attacks?
No   c) Should the United States hold foreign states accountable for terrorists who operate in their country?
No   d) Should the federal government increase funding to states and cities for homeland security?
No   e) Do you support pre-emptive military strikes against countries deemed to be a threat to United States national security?
No   f) Do you support the creation of a federal identification card system?
No   g) Do you support long-term use of National Guard troops to supplement the armed forces in assignments overseas?
No   h) Should the United States expand its missile defense shield?
i) Other or expanded principles
The War on Terror is a fraud, designed to gain American support for imperial wars and the
slashing of our freedoms at home. 9/11 was used to justify the expansion of the National Security State, but the crime itself was never fully investigated. We know that the government lied about, destroyed evidence, covered up the truth about 9/11 and held no one in the administration accountable. Indeed those most responsible for 9/11 were rewarded. Homeland Security is a threat to those who might challenge corporate and government policy; it has nothing to do with stopping "terrorists."

Social Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding social issues.
Yes        a) Should same-sex couples be allowed to marry?
No          b) Do you support a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman?

No          d) Do you support federal funding to create lines of stem cells from new embryos?
Neutral   e) Should the federal government consider race and gender in government contracting decisions?

Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding Social Security.
a) Allow workers to invest a portion of their payroll tax in private accounts that they manage themselves.
b) Ensure the viability of Social Security by increasing the payroll tax.
c) Decrease benefits paid to retirees.
X   d) Support proportional increases of Social Security benefits based on the cost of living index.
e) Raise the retirement age for individual eligibility to receive full Social Security benefits.
f) Other or expanded principles
Social Security should not be privatized or used to prop up a failing stock market- to loot those who have counted on their benefits to help them in their old age.

Welfare and Poverty Issues
Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding welfare and poverty.
a) Require welfare recipients to spend at least 40 hours a week in a combination of work and training programs.
X   b) Continue to give states and local governments flexibility in and responsibility for welfare programs through federal block grants.
X   c) Support housing assistance for welfare recipients.
d) Abolish all federal welfare programs.
e) Other or expanded principles

Impeach Bush and Cheney. Hold the most corrupt members of government accountable for their actions. End the war on Iraq. Hopefully, prevent the expansion of war into Iran and other nations. End the pre-emptive war policy. Push for transparent, acountable government to serve people, not corporations. Repeal the PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act, abolish Homeland Security. Demilitarize the police forces. Eliminate the move towards a Federal Identity Card. Honor and uphold the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Curtail the expansion of the American empire. Honor and respect people and planet, encourage honest dialogue and cooperative problem solving.
